"San Diego Indie Music Fest is a landmark event. In the face of the current state of the music industry, these 2 young women have come together to create a prototype for the present that will grow exponentially with each new year, benefiting not only the Artists, but the Community wise enough to support and celebrate them. It was an honor to Headline the inaugural SDIMF."

6:19 pm - Over 70 International Indie Artists on 7 Stages - March 3, 2007

San Diego Indie Music Fest Makes History

70+ Artists - 7 Stages - March 3, 2007

San Diego Indie Music Fest is the first and only event of its kind in the country: created by musicians for musicians who are impassioned about bringing the Indie Revolution to San Diego, full force. Executive Producers, Danielle LoPresti (Say It Records) and Alicia Champion (Champ Records), are proud to present San Diego Indie Music Fest III at the festival's brand new home in North Park, featuring stages at The North Park Theatre (MAIN Stage), 29th Street (Indie Coffee Garden Stage), Claire de Lune (Women's History Month Stage), Caffe Calabria (Acoustic Stage), Heaven Sent Desserts (Buskers' Corner Stage), The Rubber Rose (Mature Audiences Stage) and the North Park Arts and Entertainment Centre (Indie Film and Spoken Word Stage).

New Sponsors

With 91X (91.1 FM) as the new official radio sponsor for the 2007 event, and in a partnership with international nonprofit RESULTS (who recently affiliated with Bono's ONE campaigne, as well), Say It Records and Champ Records are moving at full speed to present the 3rd San Diego Indie Music Fest (SDIMF), Saturday March 3, 2007. Today, in an era when more and more musicians are choosing the independent path, and in the dawn of the demise of major record label payola, SDIMF is on its way to becoming one of California's most notable events. San Diego-based indie-activist record companies, Say It Records and Champ Records, are currently immersed in over 1,000 submissions from artists all around the world including Ecuador, Astralia, Brazil, Russia, Rwanda, Malaysia, Mexico, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Latvia, Denmark, Japan, St. Lucia, Columbia, Guatemala, Jamaica and Israel.

Making History ... Again

ANNOUNCING HEADLINERS

SDMIF is proud to announce indie rock phenomena FISHBONE as the featured headliner. Known for a sound that embodies a psychedelic swirl of manic energy, the band weaves threads of ska, reggae, rock and metal together and adds some wildly witty social commentary to cover important topics such as the breakup of families, racism, fascism, nuclear war, and oppression in lower income housing projects.

Also featured will be REDCAR - the brand new project of Heather Grody's (The Murmurs, Gush), as well as SoCal sensations, Al Howard & The K23 Orchestra, Bargain Music, AMANDLA (featuring Claude Coleman of WEEN), Danielle LoPresti & The Masses, Alicia Champion, and many more.

The music will be emphasized as a representation of "why diversity is not simply to be 'tolerated,' but rather celebrated as the crux of that which is remarkable in our community," as well as that which is crucial to a healthy, vibrant city where people of all varieties are important, recognized and valued.
This promises to be the biggest San Diego Indie Music Fest yet, featuring over 70 extraordinary independent artists and bands from all over California and beyond playing a hugely diverse menu of music including Rock, Pop, Jazz, Folk, Latin, Hip Hop, House, R&B, Urban, World, Spoken Word, Body Percussion and more. Also present will be dancers, indie artisans selling their creations, henna tattooists, hair sculpture & jewelry making, tile painting, indie businesses, voter registration, massage, delicious and affordable food and drink, family friendly and all ages welcome, all day long.

In November 2004, Say It Records and Champ Records made history with the groundbreaking debut of SDIMF by creating California's first and only independent music festival of its kind. To the dismay of some mainstream media naysayers, Producers Alicia Champion and Danielle LoPresti pushed on to create this timely and relevant musical event.

With a lineup of exclusively independent artists and bands, SDIMF is becoming California's premiere venue to experience indie music, art, business and thought. With little support and on a shoestring budget, the two indie labels produced a full 12-hour indie music extravaganza debut that left skeptics with dropped-jaws and tails between their legs. Since the inaugural 2004 event, the success of SDIMF has garnered cover stories from The Union Tribune's Night & Day, to the Gay & Lesbian Times and the Lavender Lens, to the conservative, San Diego Daily Transcript, infecting a remarkably diverse demographic with the power and message of the Indie Revolution.

San Diego Indie Music Fest (SDIMF) enriches the diversity and culture that make our communities unique by celebrating independent music, art, business, and thought, thereby creating positive change in our city and beyond.
